Ms Manketse Tlhape

Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development - MEC

Mrs Manketsi Tlhape was born in the early 1970s at Barberspan farm outside Delareyville, a maize and peanut farming area situated in the Tswaing Local Municipality, North West Province. She started her primary school at Mofufutso village before moving to Kunana village for her secondary education. She matriculated in 1987 from Bakolobeng High School in Ganaalagte village. A married mother of two, Mrs Tlhape was brought up by her grandparents after losing her mother at the age of 11.

She holds a Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing and Midwifery from the former Bophuthatswana College of Nursing, a Diploma in Clinical Health Assessment, Treatment and Care from the Mmabatho College of Nursing, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing which she obtained from the University of South Africa.

Her nursing career span more than a decade, during which she rose through the ranks, starting as a student nurse at Bophelong Hospital in 1994 and progressing to be a Manager for the Department of Health‘s Tswaing Sub-district office in 2004.

As a political activist who also participated in several management and leadership structures of the local government, Mrs Tlhape was in March 2006 deployed to serve Tswaing Local Municipality as a Mayor, the position she held for a period of 5 years. She was later deployed to Ngaka Modiri Molema District where she served as a Councillor until her deployment as a Member of Executive Council for the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs in July 2013.

Mrs Tlhape was on the 27th May 2014 redeployed to be the Member of Executive Council for the Department of Rural, Environmental and Agricultural Development in the North West Province.
